Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the gold calculator?

Our calculator uses live spot prices to provide accurate valuations. However, the actual price you receive when buying or selling gold will differ due to dealer premiums, market conditions, and the specific product type. Use this calculator as a guide for the intrinsic gold value.

What is the difference between a gram and a troy ounce?

A troy ounce is the standard unit for measuring precious metals and equals approximately 31.1 grams. This is different from a regular (avoirdupois) ounce, which equals about 28.35 grams. When dealing with gold, always use troy ounces to avoid confusion.

How do I account for gold purity (karats)?

Our calculator assumes pure gold (24 karat). For lower karat gold, multiply the result by the purity percentage. For example, 18 karat gold is 75% pure, so multiply the calculated value by 0.75. For 9 karat gold (common in UK jewellery), multiply by 0.375.
